Manchester United won the Champions League for the third time in their illustrious history. They did it in an incredibly dramatic penalty shootout. Ronaldo scored the opening goal for United with a great header in the 26th minute of the game. Lampard tied it up just before the half. Neither side would score after that and went on to penalty kicks.

Manchester United may have won, but it was clear that Chelsea were the better team throughout the match. Some questionable calls were made late in the game. Joe Cole nearly had his head super kicked off inside the penalty box for one. Droqba was sent off after an altercation with Vidic. Both players should have received the same punishment. Another questionable decision was when Avram Grant put in a defender to replace the departed Droqba instead of a pure striker like Shevchenko with with the penalty kicks looming.

Lady luck decides who wins in penalty shootouts. It was tied 2-2 when Ronaldo had his shot parried by Petr Cech. Chelsea team captain John Terry then had his plant foot slip just as he was shooting the potential game winner and missed. Anelka then missed for Chelsea giving Manchester United the win.
